MCDC - 6th Amendment violation

Opinion and thoughts of C.A.S. regarding Multnomah County Sheriff's Office as routinely violating 6th Amendment Rights denying inmates access to the law library if housed in disciplinary segregation in the jail. This seems to be a matter of policy versus rights. Inmates can be deprived of opportunity to effectively research and, therefore, aide and assist in their own defense by being denied use of the law library. Often, overworked public defenders can benefit greatly from an accused that knows his way around the law library. Self-represented defendants who are denied access to the library find their ability to launch an adversarial defense reduced that they may be compelled to plea because they could not construct their legal argument. This appears to be an unconstitutional practice and a need to review this issue. In addition, it also helps the necessity to keep lawyers honest by vetting their work. Such diligence is needed to prevent courts from being bombarded with ineffective legal counsel claims and prisons from being filled with people that would not be there had they had competent counsel or the ability to assist in their case and defense. #multnomahcountyjail #multnomahcountydetentionctr.

U.S. District Judge - Assault of free speech?

Argument ensued regarding basis of warrant/arrest for Gary Hunt of California issued by Judge Brown. Basically, G. Hunt had somehow acquired copy of FBI reports and discovery, of a current active case, which normally is considered confidential and not for disbursement. In this case, confidential informants were named. Gary Hunt placed the information on his blog for public reading. The court asserts issues regarding his use of the restricted information and his refusal to remove the information.
-- This entry of opinion is in support of G. Hunt's use of the information and his refusal to remove said content. Opinion of C.A.S. follows as -- U.S. District Judge has no respect for 1st Amendment when she had Hunt arrested for refusing to remove truthful information from his blog. Hunt was given the discovery information in the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge protest case. While Judge Brown had issued a protective order in the case, the order appears to not be applicable to Hunt because he is not a party to the criminal case itself. Also, in this opinion, Hunt's and others decisions to exercise First Amendment Rights are not subject to prohibition on publishing true facts. Also, exposing so called snitches, seems deserving for their being subjected to the same scrutiny and criticism as any defendant. This author had the privilege recently of meeting one of the leaders of the Malheur protest. I felt we had quite a lot in common with legal issues about free speech rights. After speaking with him, I was impressed with his intelligence and knowledge of law combined with his perseverance. He has been locked up for over a year because, despite being acquitted in the Oregon case, he was awaiting trial in Nevada and back in Portland to testify in defense of his fellow protesters in a separate trial. I spoke with him one day at federal court and he gave me an education about the Bureau of Land Management (BLM.) I began to understand how landowners could be driven to the point of resorting to armed protests. He began to sound like an Indian in that his family has been ranching on that land for 140 years and how their rights to that land were by state law but the federal government refuses to recognize those rights by any excuse they can think of. I told him his story sounds a lot like what happened to Native Americans' Rights. Ryan Bundy responded by saying, "Cattle ranchers are the new Native Americans." #annabrown #garyhunt #malheurwildliferefuge #gag #ryanbundy

IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT IN WOODBURN,OR

Early April 2017 action by ICE. I (C.A.S.) was reading about how immigrants and supports of immigrants have been tracking ICE agents in Woodburn, OR using Twitter and fb. Occurred to me that CopBlaster could be extremely useful for tracking ICE agents in the same way, but better perhaps. Twitter and facebook do not aggregate data in the same way that CopBlaster does and don't have the same search features as CopBlaster does. Their followers will see alerts but other than that their Tweets get buried in news feeds relatively quickly. If people started posting ICE sightings on CopBlaster, others could find them easily by searching the site for reported sightings and updates status as well. Then, a link would be automatically tweeted out and posted on facebook pages run by CopBlaster. then another could tweet on link to their followers or share it with their fb friends using the sharenholic tool on the left side of their browser window or at the bottom if they are using a mobile device. When the advanced tracker is built, CopBlaster will become even more useful. One problem with CopBlaster on social media right now is it is excessively tweeting links to news ad Reddit links about police brutality or misconduct, so much so that much of its followers have been lost due to their news feeds being bombarded. CopBlaster wanted to target relevant law enforcement with hashtags and with content and got a bit carried away. The creator of CopBlaster will fix this problem sometime in the future for easier use. Currently, CopBlaster author is indisposed. #immigration #ice #trump #copspotting
