Around 12:10 p.m., officers were called to reports of a violent domestic battery involving a weapon at a residence. Once police arrived, they found a man who was armed with a knife in front of a house. Officers reportedly tried less-lethal methods to incapacitate the man, but they were ineffective, and Officers Travis Nusbaum and Donald Okami shot and killed Stephen Douris.
