An off-duty Washington Park officer, 53, whose name was not released, called police to report seeing a wanted man with a woman outside the store. Two Cahokia officers tried to take the suspect into custody, but he fled after a struggle. Cahokia Police Chief Dave Landmann said the man got into a vehicle and drove toward the Washington Park officer, who shot and killed him. Cahokia police did not shoot.
