Detectives Phillip Christy and Eddie Stubbs were transporting two inmates to jail after a court appearance on drug and armed robbery charges. One of the inmates, identified as 19-year-old Miguel Benton, managed to get an officer's gun and shot Christy twice. Stubbs then shot Benton, killing him.
