Deputies were contacted by Tampa police to locate Mebane who was reported to be suicidal. Deputies found the missing man's vehicle in a parking lot, and as they approached, they saw the man with a firearm in his hand. Deputies told him to drop the weapon, but he raised it instead, and one deputy shot and killed him.
