Detectives pulled over a white pickup truck and were met with gunfire from the vehicle, which had four occupants. One detective was struck in the head and face and another, Det. Bradley Woolridge, shot and killed 32-year-old Alexander W. Simpson and wounded Billy Ray Riggs, who died a few days later.
