Officers were responding to a report of a suspicious person from a caller who had also provided a license-plate number, which officers determined belonged to a vehicle reported stolen in Irving. They approached the vehicle and issued "loud, verbal commands" to the occupants to exit the car, but those instructions were ignored, police said. The driver reversed and struck a police vehicle, then lurched forward into a wooden lattice fence. When the fence did not give way, the driver reversed again. Two officers opened fire, killing the woman and wounding a passenger.
