Santellana and a young female companion were sitting in a parked car in an apartment parking lot when approached by an off-duty Navasota officer and ordered to leave the vehicle. When Santellana did not immediately comply, the officer discharged his weapon multiple times. One bullet fatally wounded the victim. Witnesses say the officer did not identify himself, and tried to confiscate video evidence after the fact.
