About 2 p.m., police responded to a separate call about a robbery, where they found a man with a gunshot wound to the leg. Officers saw Ponce driving a black Honda Accord nearby and attempted pulling him over. According to police, he eventually stopped the car in a residential area. When he pulled over, he allegedly ran from the car and fired at officers. One bullet struck the police cruiser's windshield, while another struck the passenger door. Both officers in the cruiser shot and killed Ponce.
