Police officers patrolling the parking lot of a Ramada Inn spotted a Toyota RAV4 that they said had been reported stolen. They called for backup, and two other officers saw a man, later identified as Lonergan, emerging from the RAV4. Lonergan allegedly tried to flee and was armed with a handgun. It's unknown at this time whether he pointed it at them, but they shot and killed him. His girlfriend, who owned the vehicle, said the car had not been reported stolen.
