Ervin Sweat had reportedly been involved in a fight, and he had allegedly been displaying a handgun in the plaza. When two police officers arrived to investigate, he got out of a car and shot the handgun at the officers, wounding one Humboldt State University Police officer, police said. The officers then shot and killed him.
