Around 3:10 a.m., a patrolling deputy spotted "an occupied suspicious vehicle" in the driveway of a church. There was one person in the car, David John Engebretson. There was a warrant out for Engebretson's arrest, but he refused to get out of his car, so the deputy called for backup, police said. After a second deputy arrived, there was an exchange of gunfire between the deputies and Engebretson. Engebretson was shot and killed.
