Officers responded to a 911 call from the suspect's wife saying that he had a gun and had allegedly fired two shots. When they arrived the suspect confronted them in the yard and did not respond to orders to stop advancing. When a Taser had no effect, a deputy shot Elliott twice; he died of his wounds. Shooting was ruled justified by the Barry County Prosecutor in March 2013.
