Two troopers in plain clothes responded to a Facebook ad from Belsar in which he was selling a computer gaming console, which the troopers suspected may have been stolen in a recent string of burglaries. Belsar tried to walk away from the troopers and when he refused an order to stop they began fighting with him. Belsar pulled a .38-caliber revolver from his waistband and fired one shot that went through one trooper's hand and struck the other in the abdomen. The troopers shot and killed him.
