Officers went to serve a warrant before 6:30 a.m. The officers went into the home, and the subject of the warrant, Shayla Lynette Towles Pierce, was handcuffed, then gunfire came from the second floor. Kevin Sturgis left the home, gunfire was exchanged, and Sturgis was killed. Deputy U.S. Marshal Christopher David Hill, 45, was also killed, and two officers were injured.
