Deputies were called to check out a reported domestic disturbance. The initial report indicated that an intoxicated man was trying to take his children. By the time deputies arrived, they said the man was no longer there. Police began to try to find the man's vehicle. The man reportedly had a 6-year-old child in the vehicle, along with an AK47 rifle. The vehicle was spotted by an Oregon State Police trooper and pursued. Deputies deployed a spike strip on the highway which brought the vehicle to a stop. Police said the man got out of his vehicle and fired at the officers, and Trooper Justin Henrick and Deputy Maria Gray shot and killed him. The child was unharmed.
