Joliet officers were called about 4:10 a.m. for reports of a domestic battery in progress. Officers arrived to find Kimiki Truss' home on fire. Police entered the residence and were confronted with a hostage situation. Nakia Smith, 44, allegedly shot at the officers, and one officer shot him. The identity of the owner of the bullet that killed Truss, 43, has been withheld by police.
