Watauga police were called to a home at about 10:30 a.m. over a reported violation of a protective order. Officers confronted a man they said was not supposed to be there. Police said James Freeman picked up a shotgun and exchanged fire with officers before he retreated inside. Police entered the residence to find Freeman dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Police also found the body of 49-year-old Emily Law inside the home.
