Around 4:15 p.m., an officer was investigating a crash in the Aldi parking lot when a Dollar Tree employee said a shoplifting had just occurred in the store and pointed out the alleged thief. As the man tried to flee, an officer grabbed the man by the arm, and he allegedly pulled out a concealed machete. The man ran into a nearby grocery store, and officers told him to drop the weapon, and he did not, and he was shot and killed.
