John Corneil was shot and killed during an armed confrontation with state police outside a grocery store in Oakfield. Corniel was shot by Sgt. Chad Fuller of the state police outside the Oakfield Thriftway after Fuller and two other state troopers went to arrest Corneil in connection with an incident that happened in earlier in the week. Corneil allegedly challenged troopers outside the store with a handgun, which was later determined to be a pellet gun resembling a Beretta 9 mm pistol.
