About 10:45 a.m., Officers Sterrett and Hutcherson went to Mitchell Street after learning John Bailey was driving a motorcycle recklessly and not wearing a helmet, police said. Bailey ran as officers approached. The officers chased him behind a house on Mitchell Street and were shot and wounded in an exchange of gunfire. Responding officers got Sterrett and Hutcherson out of the way and set up a perimeter. After a search, Bailey was found dead behind the house.
