Sgt. J.F. Hinson and two Robeson County deputies were searching for flood victims. They were in swift-moving water that was 3 or 4 feet deep, when they encountered Hunt, who became hostile toward them and produced a gun, police said. When Hinson saw the gun, he shot and killed Hunt.
