Shine called 911 saying that he wanted to commit suicide, according to police. When Manchester officers arrived at the Robin Street residence where Shine had been cleaning a house with his mother, they encountered Shine holding a knife. He asked the responding officers to shoot him, and then threatened them with a knife, and he was shot and killed. He left a note saying he wanted police to kill him.
