Deputies received a called about an armed man acting irrationally with a severe injury. Deputies said Sanders had cut off his own hand. Officials explained they tried to help the man, but he resisted and a confrontation ensued, which escalated based on the threat he posed to deputies, a California Highway Patrol officer and citizens. Deputies said Sanders was armed with an ax and failed to follow commands. He was shot and killed.
