Wise, 52, of Austin, was stopped as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into bank robberies in Louisiana and Round Rock, near Austin. Authorities say a trooper stopped Wise near the town of Llano. Wise refused to put down his gun and then pointed the weapon toward officers who opened fire, killing him.
