Authorities were on patrol when they someone firing shots from one vehicle into another. Cruz reversed in his vehicle, attempting to hit the officers. Officers then fired their weapons, hitting at least one of the vehicle's occupants. The driver tried to get away, but was arrested after the vehicle hit other parked vehicles. Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene.
