An officer went to the home in response to a report of a missing young girl, according to a statement from the Long Beach Police Department. The officer learned the girl was inside the house with a young man with whom she once had a relationship. "The male adult armed himself with a knife," the police statement read. "Fearing for the safety of the parties, the officer discharged his weapon, striking the suspect." Smith-Viramontes was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
