Sandoval-Jiminez was in the back seat of a car fleeing a robbery. The robbers entered a restaurant and demanded cash, cell phones and wallets. They pistol-whipped the workers. A deputy arrived at the restaurant and saw two masked men enter a vehicle parked south of the scene. As the deputy pursued them, the driver drove the vehicle toward him. Two officers fired into the vehicle, killing Sandoval-Jiminez.
