Police were looking for a suspicious person with a gun. Officer DJ "Nick" Winum saw a car matching the description and initiated a traffic stop. Once the vehicle stopped, Richards allegedly exited the vehicle and shot Winum. Winum died at the scene. Richards then ran into the woods, where Page County Sheriff's deputies located him. Deputies allege Richards made a threatening movement, and they fired their weapons, killing him on scene.
