Deputies responded to reports of an exchange of gunfire involving Hartley. Bondsmen had allegedly been looking for Hartley earlier in the week, which the Sheriff's Office was not involved with. Deputies tracked Hartley through the woods and into the backyard of a home. Deputies allege he was armed with a firearm and a knife, and claim he repeatedly aimed and shot at deputies. Deputies returned fire and shot Hartley, killing him.
