Officers responded to an assault in progress call. Telford was apparently upset and had been drinking heavily and began making suicidal comments. Telford allegedly had a handun and repeatedly placed the gun at his temple, stating he wanted to kill himself. A negotiater attempted to speak with Teflord, who stepped out onto an enclosed porch, allegedly holding a gun. Police told him to drop the weapon, and Telford allegedly fired multiple shots before leaving the porch. He allegedly fired again, and five officers shot back, killing him.
