Deputies with the Kings County Sheriff's Office were called to assist the pursuit of a vehicle that had started in San Luis Obispo County. The pursuit ended and the suspect allegedly confronted California Highway Patrol officers with a firearm and wearing a tactical vest. Law enforcement began negotiating with the individual, and a SWAT team and Crisis Resolution team was eventually brought in. Negotiations lasted around 10 hours, before the suspect allgedly confront and engaged a member of the SWAT team by allegedly firing a round in their direction. Multiple law enforcement personnel returned fire and the individual died at the scene.
