According to a statement from California State Parks: "Earlier today State Park Rangers responded to reports of gun shots at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. A male possibly in his mid-20s yelled out and started shooting with a 10 millimeter Glock around the area. It was unclear who he was shooting at. No one was hurt in the suspect's fire." Rangers shot and killed the man. The statement gave no indication of why the rangers believed the person was shooting at people and no indication that they were threatened by the man with the gun.
