Parks remained on the outbound train, which McCarthy said prompted investigators to move in. Parks apparently spotted the officers, most of whom, McCarthy said, were in plain clothes with badges around their necks. That prompted Parks to run to the upper level of the rail car, and as one officer attempted to take him into custody, he broke free, pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots at several officers on the train, officials said.
