Around 10:15 p.m., the Jasper County Sheriff's Office received a call of an armed robbery and carjacking at a Pilot Truck Stop near Remington. A man allegedly pointed a gun while stealing a black Mitsubishi. A Demotte police officer spotted the vehicle, but lost sight of the car. Two troopers found it and reportedly tried to make a traffic stop, but the driver fled, and the troopers pursued. After getting a flat tire, the driver got out and started shooting, and during the exchange of gunfire, the driver of the Mitsubishi was killed, and a trooper was injured.
