Livingston police responded to a report of a man threatening Shopko Hometown employees that "someone was going to die" if the police were not called to the store, police said. Officers found O'Brien outside of the store and he allegedly threatened them with a knife. Police tried to subdue O'Brien using a Taser, but the attempt was ineffective. O'Brien ran at the officer with a knife, and he was shot and killed.
