At approximately 5:15 p.m., an Emery County deputy pulled over a driver with the suspicion he was under the influence of alcohol. During the stop, the driver exited the vehicle and pointed a gun at the officer. The man re-entered his vehicle and drove off, and the deputy chased him. A Utah Highway Patrol trooper used spikes to stop the car. The driver then pointed his gun in the direction of the trooper and deputy, and both officers shot and killed the driver.
