Two officers were on patrol in a marked police vehicle when they pulled over a car in the parking lot of the Brentwood Long Island Railroad Station at 10:20 p.m. The driver, Emanuel Johnson, reportedly ran away from the officers while carrying a backpack. The officers chased him on foot to the backyard of a home where they reportedly tried to deployed a Taser that was ineffective, police said. Johnson reportedly displayed a handgun and was shot and killed.
