About 6 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a man pointing a gun at neighbors. When they arrived, they found that James Christopher Manus had also set fire to his neighbor's well house. When deputies tried to speak with Manus, deputies said he barricaded himself inside the home and refused all attempts at communication. At about 11 p.m., Manus began to shoot at deputies from inside the home. Just after midnight, he appeared in the front doorway and shot at deputies again, and deputies shot and killed Manus.
