Around 12:04 a.m., officers responded to a theft complaint at a Hele gas station convenience store. A witness identified a man who matched the suspect's description in the parking lot of Dillingham Plaza. Police found him holding a bottle of alcohol and a hunting knife. The officers reportedly ordered him to drop the weapon, but he allegedly raised the knife and moved toward the officers. One of the officers deployed his Taser, but it was ineffective, and two other officers shot and killed him.
