Deputies were dispatched to serve a state warrant, in a joint operation with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, police said. They expected to find weapons and drugs in the apartment. Deputies arrived in an armored vehicle and announced their presence as they entered the apartment through the front door and windows. As deputies stepped into the residence, one of its occupants, a man, started firing at them with a long gun assault rifle. He was shot and killed.
