The police said the sergeant, who was in uniform, entered the apartment and found Ms. Danner in a bedroom holding a pair of scissors. She put down the scissors, then picked up a baseball bat and tried to hit him with it, the police said. The sergeant fired two shots, striking Ms. Danner in her torso.
