Deputies were called out to a home after Stevenson's girlfriend reported that he had allegedly broken into her apartment and sprayed mace at her and her daughter. Stevenson left before the deputies arrived, but they were able to reach him on the phone when he threatened to jump from a bridge. Law enforcement checked both bridges crossing the Mississippi River in the area and were unable to find Stevenson. Two EBRSO homicide detectives found him and tried to get Stevenson out of his vehicle. Police say the detectives shot and killed Stevenson after he tried to escape by allegedly ramming into them with his vehicle.
