San Antonio Police officer Nesta Reid was arrested a couple days ago after fellow officers discovered an unmarked patrol car last known to be used by Reid abandoned on railroad tracks without any license plates. The vehicle's laptop was also missing. Reid is now charged with Theft of Vehicle, Obstructing Passageway/Roadway, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. Investigators allege that Reid had crashed into a barrier earlier causing minor damage to the vehicle. Why Reid appears to have tried to stage a theft to cover up his minor accident is not clear, perhaps $59,000 a year is not enough to cover minor auto body repairs (https://openpayrolls.com/nesta-dwayne-reid-95309283) or maybe he was just being cheap.
The San Antonio Police Department immediately suspended Reid without pay pending the outcome of the case.
