James City County Police officer Michael Trenton Rusk was arrested today for shooting fellow officer Christopher Gibson while off-duty. He is currently being held in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail on charges of malicious wounding but will probably be released soon on bail, bond, or pre-trial supervision. The James City County Police Department has placed Rusk on unpaid administrative leave.
Not much is known about the incident other than Rusk and Gibson knowing each other. Gibson was taken to the hospital in critical condition but is expected to survive. Gibson was arraigned yesterday and his next court date has been scheduled for February 16th.
