Officers were near a Walmart on an unrelated issue when they heard a call about a male theft suspect. One of the officers reportedly saw a person who matched the description in the parking lot and followed his truck onto Lanikuhana Avenue. When the truck stopped at a light, they surrounded it and ordered the driver to get out of the vehicle. The man ignored the commands and rammed the police vehicle behind him in an attempt to flee. The man then allegedly accelerated toward one of the officers, and two officers fired at the driver, killing him. The vehicle continued down the avenue where it slammed into a tree.
