Former Christiansburg Police Officer Ethan Havens has been arrested on child pornography charges after Twitter tipped off police that images he shared had been flagged as child pornography. Investigators with the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force subpoena'd Twitter for the user's account information, traced that information to Officer Havens, seized Havens' computer, and charged him with five counts of possessing, reproducing, or distributing child pornography.
According to media reports, Havens sent pictures of himself in uniform to another Twitter user via direct private messages. That user responded by sending him nude images of a girl under 18 years of age. It is not clear whether or not those picture were of that user or some other person.
