Ventura "Benny" Martiniez is considered by many to be Philadelphia's most infamous drug rat. Most of his victims were from the Kensington area. His CI Code was #103. Philadelphia Police credited him with over 200 arrests and he himself bragged to the media claiming he put dozens of people in prison for drugs. His most recent interview was in 2016 and the reporter described him as a ragged looking 50 year old, so that would make him 54 today.
Public records returned one hit for a living 54 year old Ventura Martinez at the above mentioned address, but it should be noted that the record was listed under the name "Ventura Martinez Perez," and we do not know if this is in fact the same Ventura Martinez, but there are too many similarities to ignore. For instance, Courthouse News reported that "Benny Martinez" was also known as "Ventura Perez" https://www.courthousenews.com/ex-police-panel-inspector-says-he-was-forced-out-over-pulitzer-winning-corruption-series which means that this is most likely Ventura "Benny" Martinez. Everything was working out quite well for Benny and his buddies at the Philadelphia Police Department until Philadelphia Daily News ran a Pulitzer Prize winning series called "Tainted Justice." Tainted Justice exposed an inappropriate relationship between "Benny" and his handler, Officer Jeffrey Cujdik. Activities like taking "Benny" out to dinner and letting him move into his home caught the attention of the Philadelphia Daily News. Once their relationship was exposed, "Benny" started snitching on Cujdik. "Benny" accused Cujdik of paying him to make buys, crediting him for buys he never made, and permitting him to impersonate a police officer. Cujdik and his narcotics unit were prosecuted, but because prosecutors considered Cujdik's rats too unreliable to use against him the case fell apart. Cujdik was fired, but later rehired.
In more recent years, Benny has been described as gypsy that has moved from one Philadelphia area hide out to another to avoid justice. In 2016 Philadelphia Daily News reported that he had lived in no fewer that seven neighborhood in the Philadelphia area. According to our background check, Ventura Martinez Perez has had 10 different addresses since 2007.
